![]() ![]() So the first difficulty hurdle comes from just how easy it is to defeat yourself by not understanding how you should upgrade your units. If you started this game on "Captain" (recommended difficulty) and didn't look up a guide you already lost as you are wasting money on useless upgrades or useless mechs (Blackjack is your first mech and is basically unusable). The game has an incridibly in depth customization system which allows you to upgrade every metric on any of your units (Energy, weapon damage, accuracy, energy cost, movement, armor, flak, missile capacity, shield power, shield range ect.). Through sheer brainpower and save scumming. Becouse the enemies are always coming from all directions, they always have reinforcments ready, they always seem unstoppable at first, yet in the end it's you who will prevail. Almost every battle in Sunrider is framed as helpless with you achieving an against-all-odds victory and this game EARNS THAT FEELING TENFOLD. Those units are also not idle, they will use their best attacks each turn to try and relenlessly kill you. As a single carrier with most of the time about 3-5 mechs for support you are outnumbered all the time by PACT forces (communists) and sometimes in trully comical numbers such a 5 to 1. The tactical combat in Sunrider is, to put it in one word: hard or three words: hard as balls. As you gather allies and wage a guirilla war against the biggest empire in the galaxy.įrom my description up to this point you might think I don't like this game very much, quite the opposite I love it, now let me explain why. Thankfully a whole host of anime girls which are all very good at piloting mechs get very quickly recruited to your side. You see the Sunrider lauched without having most of it's systems operational but also without any carriers, which seeing as you are a carrier is pretty bad. The game tries to lower your guard in order for you to get completly destroyed by what's coming for you. If that all sounds pretty cliche, that's becouse it is. You are Kayto Shields captain of a state-of the art carrier called Sunrider, on the first day of your job your homeworld: Cera gets invaded by space communists who also kill your sister and the entire capital city with a giant laser beam. Sunrider: first arrival & mask of arcadius (bundled together for free as MoA) is a brutal, unforgiving, merciless and completly bullshit tactical strategy game masquarading as a VN in order to lure in helpless horny weebs. That's how my 4-year journey with this game begun. Recommended to you becouse you like the following games: As you are ready to ignore it, you realize to things, first of the entire game is free and secondly right there on the side There you see a mech visual novel which looks really low quality, you played ace attorney before so you can tel the diffrence betwee a good and a bad VN. You are broke and don't know what to play, so in desperation you decide to click through the games recommended for you on steam. It's summer and all your friends went off to do summer stuff with their families. Imagine for a second, being really really bored.
